And Wednesday, we received the news that my Uncle Dennis had been killed while trying to intervene in a fight that started at a pizza place where he was eating. Right now, it just doesn't even seem real, and we are just hurting so much, especially for his kids and grandkids. We will miss his witty sense of humor, and gentle, kind-hearted spirit. He was a tremendous grandpa and a dedicated son, daily visiting my grandma and taking incredible care of her.
It's hard to believe you're gone, Uncle Dennis, but we are so thankful to know that you are safe in the arms of Jesus.

Oh Carrie, I am so sad for you. I was thinking about you when I heard about Ruthe, and then to read about your uncle too... wow. What a hard week. How are you holding up? What about your parents?
Carrie and family - you have my prayers and sympathies. My parents made the trek to Des Moines today in order to avoid the snow. I have sent them along with my well wishes and prayers. I wish I could be there. I haven't seen Dennis in years but I remember his smile and how great he was with great auntie Ruth. The whole Levang family is in my prayers. Peace be with you.
Our prayers are with your family. What a crazy situation. It's never easy loosing someone so close, but so comforting to know that they are in the arms of Jesus! We'll continue to think and pray for your family!
