Explaining the Trinity

These stories are always hard to convey through a blog posting, but I just have to try to set the stage and retell a conversation I had with E while putting him to bed night before last.

Since he's just finished his week of studying some of Jesus' miracles, I thought it would be most appropriate to share the miracle of the "Feeding of the 5000" as a bedtime story (especially since it includes a generous little boy!!).

When I got to the part where the disciples bring the bread and fish to Jesus, and Jesus prays, I think I said something like, "Lord God, bless this food." Immediately, E interrupted me and said, "Mom, is Jesus praying to Himself?" I said, "No, He's praying to His Heavenly Father - God in Heaven." E says, "So there are two Gods???

Oh, Oh. So there I was, frantically trying to explain the Trinity to a three year old! If you know E, the questions just keep on coming. I finally ended the conversation by saying . . . "Yeah, E, I guess you are right, Jesus was kinda praying to Himself."

That's great! He really keeps you on your toes, huh? Do you think you have a little theologian on your hands?? :)

Amazing. He reminds me of Adam at that age - so perhaps you do have a little theologian on your hands...
